Since 1944, Smokey the Bear has been the US Forest Service Wildfire Prevention Ambassador. He is both the inspiration for my painting and a beloved memory from my childhood. Camping with my family in New Mexico during the 1950's ... Smokey was everywhere, teaching his now famous warning ... "Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires". As a child, I was in awe of 'Smokey the Bear'.
